Frequently Asked Questions

Direct answers. No fluff.

Is this for beginners?

Yes. KeyForge Piano supports learners at every level. Beginners can start with single-note sight reading in C major, basic scales, and simple interval recognition. The difficulty configuration on every practice mode lets you set parameters that match your current skill level and increase them as you progress.

There is also a Guided mode that uses adaptive algorithms to adjust the difficulty in real time based on your performance, providing a personalized practice experience that keeps you challenged without overwhelming you, but no features and no practice modes are gated behind a "beginner" label. You have full control over your practice experience from day one.

Does this replace a teacher?

No. KeyForge is a practice tool, not a curriculum. It provides structured exercises, real-time feedback, and progress tracking — the kind of work you do between lessons. A good teacher provides musical context, interpretation guidance, and personalized feedback that software cannot replicate.

What we help you build here is not musicality. It's the technical fluency that allows your musicality to shine. The software is designed to get out of the way and let you do the work of building that fluency, but the artistry is yours.

KeyForge also includes an educator mode that provides teachers a dashboard linked to their students so they can assign specific practice tasks and monitor student progress.

Can multiple users share the same account?

Yes. KeyForge supports multiple user profiles within the same account, allowing each person to have their own practice data, progress tracking, and personalized settings. This is ideal for families or shared devices.

If Cloud Sync is enabled, the local profiles are stored under the same Login and synchronized across devices, but they remain separate within the app. Each user can switch to their profile to access their own practice history and progress. There is no limit to the number of profiles you can create under a single account.

Do you collect or sell user data?

No. KeyForge does not sell, share, or monetize user data, and never will.

If you use the optional cloud sync feature, your practice data is stored in a Supabase-backed database that only you can access. If you don't use cloud sync, all data stays on your device. There is no analytics tracking beyond minimal, privacy-respecting usage metrics.

Is there a subscription?

Pricing details will be announced closer to the public launch. The goal is a fair, transparent pricing model that aligns with the product's values. There will be no surprise charges, no bait-and-switch free tiers, and no feature gating designed to frustrate you into paying.

Will there be a web version?

Not currently planned. The native app approach allows for low-latency audio processing, MIDI integration, and microphone-based pitch detection that are difficult to achieve reliably in a browser environment. If Web MIDI and AudioWorklet APIs mature sufficiently, this may be revisited.

Does it support MIDI?

Yes. KeyForge Piano supports MIDI input from any connected keyboard or controller. MIDI provides the most accurate and lowest-latency note detection. All practice modes that accept note input work with both MIDI and microphone, but MIDI is recommended for the best experience.

What platforms are supported?

KeyForge Piano: macOS, iPhone, and iPad.

KeyForge Metronome: iPhone.

Additional platforms may be supported in the future.

What makes this different from other music practice apps?

Focus. KeyForge is designed as a training instrument — built around deliberate practice, real-time feedback, and long-term skill development.

Many music apps are excellent at introducing people to music and keeping early learning engaging. KeyForge is built for what comes after that initial spark: sustained, intentional practice that builds durable fluency.

There are no streaks, badges, or artificial progression gates. Instead, you get structured practice, actionable feedback, and full control over your training.

Can I use this without an internet connection?

Yes. All practice modes work fully offline. Cloud sync is optional and only activates when you explicitly sign in and enable it. Your practice sessions are stored locally on your device regardless of connectivity.
